The Stor-Skälsjön wind farm is being developed by Timra Vind AB, based in Bredsjön, and Ökoenergie Projektentwicklung GmbH, one of the largest and most experienced Austrian wind farm developers and operators. It will consist of 62 wind turbines generating up to 242 MW green electricity. Independent wind analysis on the site has shown excellent wind conditions.
The wind farm extends from the north of Stor-Skälsjön lake to the Stor-Fuskberget hill in the south, over an area of 35 km² in the northwest of the Sundsvall and Timrå municipalities. 61 turbines are being developed on the property of a single forestry industry landowner and one turbine on a private plot.
The Stor-Skälsjön wind farm project was launched in 2010 and permissions were obtained in February 2017. This project is widely supported by the residents and elected officials of the towns of Timrå and Sundsvall and will signify an important economic impulse for the region. Planned start of construction is 2019, planned start of operation 2020/2021.
The location of the Skälsjön wind farm is mainly used for forestry. The site´s accessibility is convenient for turbine and tower transports from nearby maritime ports. The external electricity grid infrastructure is already under construction.Project Timeline Overview
